That’s why most electric cars (and eventually ALL) have anti-collision AI. We just have to make sure drivers cannot override those features.

Anti-collision technology is not going to matter much in an actual collision with a pedestrian, where simple physics decide whether the person being hit by a driver is going to live or die. So, weight and speed.

You are correct, but the AI should reduce or eliminate the number of actual collisions.

You should 100% dive deeper on this. I was delighted to hear your podcast interview on The Big Story https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5zaW1wbGVjYXN0LmNvbS9Pa2F4NDRibw/episode/Mjg3MDQ2YWItYWJlOS00M2RmLWIwZDktNDMzNzVhNTE3NGZl?hl=en-CA and I came here to see how you expanded on the arguments you made there but alas this is shorter and less detailed!

One thing I would love if you could dive into is the "missing middle" of EV offerings in Canada. The cheapest Chinese vehicles might not pass our safety regulations and speed limited "near car" options (which I personally would love to see) might be hard to sell today. But why are we not being offered cars like the Dacia Spring which is already licensed to drive in the EU? https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/dacia-spring-ev-decision-uk-sale-coming-soon

It would be particularly timely since a few days ago Tesla decided it was no longer interested in keeping its prices down to qualify for the federal rebate (since presumably it is selling all the cars it can make anyway).

He's not an auto "journalist"

Not sure what you are trying to say? Are you trying to dispute his right to weigh in on this topic? Seems to me like he is making important points that are relevant to the auto industry and backed by evidence. If anything, sadly, being an experienced auto journalist might actually get in the way of seeing the problems clearly (and I say this as a former tech journalist)...

1. He is against cars in general; see his tweet from just hours ago: "Why I don’t want to own a car, chapter 75: Once at the dealer the technician always finds things to service on your car that will see you spend 1/10th of the car’s value on the work." That's an exaggeration, and EVs require far less service than their gasoline counterparts. One does not necessarily need to have service done at the dealer either.

2. He has every right to weigh in, but he is out of his depth on the topics you suggested. You can find better commentary elsewhere.

3. Today he chose to respond to the two people who don't find his point of view to be sound, rather than to respond to you.

Your article sucks.

Fear, uncertainty, and doubt is a propaganda tactic used in sales, marketing, public relations, politics, polling and cults. FUD is generally a strategy to influence perception by disseminating negative and dubious or false information and a manifestation of the appeal to fear.
